The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #1 - Comic Review

Originally published on Patreon

Batman is one of the worlds greatest detective, but so are Mystery Inc. and the Scooby gang. So what better combination than having these two giants work together?

The latest volume of The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries starts off with Batman and Robin joining up with Mystery Inc. to investigate strange occurances in an abandoned wild west frontier town. Arriving on the scene they find a load of broken electronic devices, and are soon attacked by a ghost. Thankfully, Man-of-Bats, part of the Batman of All Nations group.

They discover that the ghost is actually Ubu, one of Ras al Ghul's henchmen, and that the town was being used to test out EMP devices. Learning that Ra's is set to launch an attack with the device 'across the world in the heart of Batman', the group splits up to try and find the terrorist and stop his schemes.

This is a pretty fun first issue for this series, and nicely combines together the world of Scooby-Doo and Batman in a way where both groups still feel like they're being themselves. The world of Batman presented here is much more in line with the comics from the 60's, with a more jolly, optimistic Batman; but I liked how they've brought in some newer elements too. Things like the Batman of All Nations being there; and them getting the idea for the name Batman Inc from Mystery Inc was a super fun touch.

The artwork is really nice and bold looking, with bright colours and clear art that makes it a lot easier to understand for it's target audience. That being said, I think the book can appeal to more than just young readers, and that anyone who's open to a bit of fun will find something here to enjoy.
