Multiversity: Teen Justice is a book that started off with a great idea, following the teen team on a world where the characters have all be swapped around, but thanks to a story that has very little going on, forced character drama, and some odd choices, it quickly became a book that I didn't enjoy. Thankfully, the series is close to the end, and this issue did actually pick up a bit.
The team finally get stuck in and bring the fight to the Green Lanterns this issue, coming together to try and stop Sinestra from using wristbands being handed out to the public to draw the life-force from people to power their device. We get some nice character moments scattered throughout the issue, some decent action, and big dramatic moments for Troy and Raven (who've really been the heart of this series).
We also get a pretty decent sequence in the middle of the issue where Jess is having something of an identity crisis and goes to this universe' version of the Flash Museum to figure out some of their stuff. We get some interesting looks at the different members of the Flash Family on this Earth, including Maxine Mercury, and the fact that their Jesse Quick was a gender swapped Jesse Owens. We get to see pics of her both in her hero costume, and at the Berlin Olympics. I kind of loved this moment, and getting to see more background to this universe and its history is the kind of stuff I love.
When Kid Quick returns to the fight they've changed their outfit, and it pretty much matches the Flash from the Future State comics that we also saw crop up in Aquaman's dream world in Dark Crisis: World Without A Justice League. It was pretty obvious that this Jess was that Jess, just younger, but it's nice to see the character moving more towards that point, and proving they're the same characters.
The other big stuff in the book, for me, was the Raven and Troy stuff. Their budding romance has been a super sweet highlight for the series, and they get their big kiss moment this issue too, in a very nicely drawn moment. Sadly, there's also some loss as it seems like Raven makes the ultimate sacrifice to save his friends. I guess we have to wait til next issue to find out if he's gone for good though.
Whilst this series has been a mixed bag, this is the best issue it's had for a good while, and might even be the best one of the series so far. Fingers crossed that the final issue can stick a decent landing.
