Flashpoint Beyond #5 - Comic Review

Originally published on Patreon

Flashpoint Beyond has been one of the more interesting series that DC has been producing recently, thanks in part to this version of Thomas Wayne having been appearing outside of his regular time-line for a while now. But, he's back in his own world and is trying desperately to remake it into the one we know.

This issue opens with a handy explanation as to how some of these big events happen in DC, with it being split into two distinct camps; those that affect space and the multiverse, and those which change time. This is a decent explanation as to how certain things have big, cosmic level changes, but other times it feels smaller. People like the Anti-Monitor and Pariah are trying to chance reality, whilst things like Flashpoint are changing time.

It's a bit complex, but luckily there are some decent visual representations included that help to make it a bit clearer. We also get the shocking revelation that everything we've been seeing takes place after Dark Crisis, which certainly adds some unexpected new insight.

In his Fashpoint time, Thomas heads to Arkham in order to face his wife, Martha, who he's figured out is the clockwork killer. We get an explanation as to why she's been doing all of this, and get some interesting revelations about how this off-shoot universe/timeline works.

It feels like a lot of stuff in this issue are setting up for the finale, both in the regular universe and in the Flashpoint one; and whilst it's not the most thrilling issue of the run it's still a super interesting and engaging read; and seems like it could lead to some long lasting ramifications. With just one issue left, I'm going to be interested in seeing how this all ends up.
