The sixth issue of Poison Ivy is a big one, it's the point that the previous issues have been building towards, where we'll find out what path Ivy will take. Will she be something of a hero, or will she become the killer of humanity?
After being captured by Jason Woodrue, and put under his control thanks to the lamia spores, Ivy finds herself with a scalpel to her throat, a scalpel that she herself is holding. Forced to submit under his control, Ivy is on the brink of taking her own life, fighting back with all of her will.
It's when Woodrue brings up Harley, telling Ivy how he's planning to kill her and make her suffer, that she finds the strength to fight back and break through the control. Ivy manages to beat Woodrue, and eats his corpse in order to hold back the lamia spores. After deciding that she wants to try to use her powers for the better she reconnects to the Green, and is cured of her illness.
So, I'm not entirely sure that I really like this conclusion. I feel like DC is trying to walk the line between Ivy being a hero or a villain, and is trying to make both camps happy. Those that want her as a villain have got to witness her doing some awful things this series, but she's apparently turned her back on that. And those that want her to be a hero have an Ivy who has shown no remorse or guilt over the attempted genocide and multiple, awful murders she's done.
It kind of feels a bit wishy washy, and it doesn't feel like the book has picked a firm path for itself. Not a huge amount happened this issue, and the ending feels a bit off. I don't really see what kind of direction the book is planning to go next, and I've gone from really enjoying the series to not being sure if I should really care. Perhaps the next issue will help to put these feelings to bed, as Ivy sets out to figure out what her next path is.
