Jurassic League #6 - Comic Review

Originally published on Patreon

The final issue of Jurassic League finally brings all six members of this dinorific Justice League together as this monstrous version of Darkseid tears his way across the planet. And even though things have all been building towards this moment, it feels like perhaps the best parts of the series have already been and gone.

DC have been doing some really good stories set in wildly different universes, such as DCeased, DC vs Vampires, and Dark Knights of Steel; however, there are some other stories that feel a bit less inspired. Whilst the other mentioned series have done hugely well and have received spin-off titles and sequel series, things like Jurassic League, DC Mech, and Multiversity: Teen Justice struggle to grab me in the same way, and six issues feels a bit too long to really keep me engaged with it.

This was a really fun concept, and discovering all of the alternate versions of the League in this new setting was a huge part of the fun. Velociraptor Flash? Sure, makes sense. A T-Rex dude dressed as Batman? Why not! But now that we've come to the end and we've got nothing new and it's just the characters doing the same old 'come together to stop Darkseid' thing it feels like a bit of a let-down of an ending.

Maybe I'm just a bit bored of Darkseid now. He's the villain here, in the New 52 Justice League origin, in DC Mech, and he's the big threat in the new DCeased series. I get that he's a big bad, but I'm starting to get bored of how many different ways DC keeps telling the same kind of story.

That being said, it's not a completely bad story, as there are some good moments in here that feel like nice endings for the story. Perhaps is you're reading the series all in one go it'll read better, but as the ending that's been building for six months (and that I've waited a month since the last issue to see) it just doesn't do enough for me.
