Mother Removes Child From School For Learning About LGBT+ People
A mother in Atlanta has removed her daughter from school following a lesson that taught children that LGBT+ people exist.
Octavia Parks, whose 12-year-old daughter attends Lithonia Middle School in Georgia, told Fox News in an interview that she chose to remove her daughter from the school following a lesson in which students were taught the correct terms for same sex relationships.
'We're talking about a sixth grader who still watches Nickelodeon.' Parks complained. 'I'm not ready to explain what these words are nor what they mean. I will be removing her from class and I'm going to take it to the board of education to see what they have to say about it as well.
'Why are they teaching that in school? What does it have to do with life?'
Some outlets are reporting that other parents have also complained about their children learning that LGBT+ relationships exist, and that further action has been taken against the school.

So you believe ignorance is bliss! What happens when they meet other children with LGBT parents or children? Open your closed mind and explain that there are different relationships, or does that scare you to much. Maybe you are queer and can not except it and that is why you are so opposed to knowledge.
ReplyDeleteTrying to hide the existence of LGBT people from her in 6th grade is not doing her any favors. LGBT people exist, they aren't going away and they aren't going to hide from ignorant bigots like the person her mother apparently wants her to be.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that there are still parents like this today makes me sick. If she thinks she can shield her daughter from other ways of life, in 2017, she's gonna have a bad time.
ReplyDeleteTypical Bury your head in the sand and pretend we don't exist. What happens when the kid meets someone else who is gay lesbian or transgender or even other wise or another child that has a parent thats LGBTQ+ .... the more kids are taught about it the less they will be shocked about it later. 12 years old is probably the perfect age for it because they are just beginning to learn about sexuality anyway.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in fifth grade, we watched films about puberty and the body and sexual organs. Both male and female. If I could do that in the 80s, then certainly kids can learn about the fact that LGBTQIA people exist.
ReplyDeleteLgbt need to have the same rights has transphobic and homophobic people knowing that people refuse to accept change you need to force change upon people so they can accept the lgbtqqia2 community what the woman did was wrong
